I am planning to get a Mini to use with Plex and external HDs as a home theater system. My biggest question is whether or not I could use it for my photo editing with Aperature, Photoshop and Lightroom as well? I'd love to ditch my laptop in favor of a home theater/desktop editing solution. Thoughts?

Missed by many yesterday due to the fervor of the WWDC Keynote address was an announcement (http://lists.apple.com/archives/Darwin-dev/2006/Aug/msg00067.html) by Apple's Open Source Project Manager, Ernest Prabhakar, concerning Apple and its Open Source initiative.
Mac OS Forge
With the recent announcement of the demise of OpenDarwin.org (http://www.opendarwin.org/), Apple has stepped up to the plate and has created Mac OS Forge (http://www.macosforge.org/), a community site hosted by Apple to "support WebKit and other open source projects focused on Mac OS X, especially those looking to transition from OpenDarwin.org." Current projects include the Bonjour, Collaboration (iCal Server), Kernel (XNU), Launchd, and WebKit.
XNU x86 Source Released
Apple has released the source code for the Intel x86 version of the Darwin Kernel, beginning with Darwin 8.7 (Mac OS 10.4.7). While apologies were offered for the delay in releasing the source, no explanation was given. Speculation had begun earlier in the year that Apple was closing the XNU x86 source (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/05/20060517144323.shtml) due to piracy concerns. MacGuides has an introduction to Darwin (http://guides.macrumors.com/Darwin) and XNU (http://guides.macrumors.com/XNU) for readers unfamiliar with the technologies.
iCal Server Source
As many readers have noted, Apple has indeed released the source for iCal Server (slated to be released with Mac OS 10.5 "Leopard" Server) under the Apache License (http://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0.html).
Other Licensing Changes
Bonjour and Launchd projects are now being distributed under the Apache License. The projects were previously relegated to Apple's Apple Public Source License (http://www.opensource.apple.com/apsl/2.0.txt).

Its kind of a duh thing.
apple was the really the only successful computer maker to provide a tablet that people actually wanted. They couldn't keep them in stock.
The competition wasn't about to take that lying down and so by the end of 2010 other tablets have started hitting the market.
In apple's marketshare will decrease even further as other computer makers ready their answer to the iPad.
The competition is driving everyone to improve their products, so the winners are the consumers. Features are added and prices remain constant.

Hi All,
can someone please help me out with creating a logo that looks like a wispy cloud, ive tried countless times but my end result is rather disappointing, render/clouds isn't cutting it either.
it has to look spot on and natural.
Thanks Chester.

The M0116 should have the same tactile feedback as the original Apple Extended Keyboard (released in '87 with the SE and II), although be careful here, as the Extended Keyboard II was released in 1990, and those keys are a little softer (and quieter).
And I'm with you - I consider the late 80s Apple keyboards to have the best feel, although they are a little loud by today's standards.

Not that I REALLY care (okay I do, otherwise I wouldn't say anything)... but 3 people made comments to me today regarding my wimpy, slightly less impressive name tag. As the educator, I gotta ask, "Couldn't they just give me the regular tag with a different color on the bottom?"
Jeeze... it's borderline discrimination. I had been dreaming about going to this thing for about 6 years. I register online, take off two days of work, fly out to San Francisco, wait in line to get my tag (which took forever because they couldn't move the line fast enough - causing me to miss the only clinic I was able to go to (according to the guy at the door), they don't give me a bag.
It has been very sad and disappointing today. I pray Tuesday is better.

Note to self: Do not sign up for the educator thing ever again - weak!

Some folks are optimistic that Apple will eventually support USB 3.0, but I am not one of them. When Steve said it wasn't taking off, I think that was a euphemism for saying that USB 3.0 will not be taking off in Apple products. Back when he said that, they and Intel were working on Light Peak, now called Thunderbolt. Now that the new MacBook Pros have Thunderbolt and the expectation that the new iMac's later this year will have Thunderbolt, I do not see any reason why Apple would add USB 3.0.

Oh cool! I'll try that for sure. However, is there a way of triggering sleep mode without the inverter board (which i believe is connected to the clamshell sensor) connected, or must I do target disk mode to log in and make changes? (I crippled the inverter cable and need to directly solder it to the logic board or get a new cable).
When I boot it up it is in extended mode.

You're not counting the total number of comparisons made to sort your address book, you're counting the number of times each address card is asked to compare itself to another address card.
So what you're see is that each card is asked to comparison itself once with another card. This is the 1's. Except at the end, the address card for Hania Zet

Hello all,
I got my iPad today and promptly installed AIM logging in with the same username as my laptop so I can occasionally leave my room and continue a conversation on my iPad in the living room.
However, it seems like AIM on my iPad is the only client that gets my messages. Usually logging in at two+ locations will have any IMs received at both locations, but I only get them on my iPad. When I look at my laptop, I can see the person is typing but am not getting anything. I checked the settings on AIM and Adium but nothing stands out.
Odd thing is my roommate set up the same approach with AIM and Adium on his iPad and laptop and he has no problems.
Could anyone help?

Both BOINC and SETI servers will be going offline for 24 hours starting at 3PM EST,12 noon PST. Both are located on the Berkley campus in California. Berkley is upgrading parts of the campus power grid and both server sets are in the same building and the building will have its power cut.
