So considering I will be attempting to buy an iPad 2 tomorrow (standing in line in the morning @ an apple store), will tomorrow be to late?

What can we expect for price ranges, is the yonah going to be more expensive for apple to buy and integrate than the ppc?
And I would assume there would be a jump in prices to begin with, being a new- top of the line product. Or am I crazy..

Yonah is more expensive than the G4.
iBooks will feature integrated graphics guaranteed. They already have OsX running on the Intel 915 chipset in developer macs. Most cheaper laptops use the same chipset. Apple have no reason not to use it in the iBook. It's a budget product to them.
This will create an immediate differential with the powerbook which will end up using a seperate gfx card.
Don't expect prices to much different across all product lines than they are now. Apple didn't switch to intel because they are cheaper (the new processors aren't) they did so because IBM couldn't keep up with theyre predicted roadmap.

I hope to make it there but I don't get off work until 5 too. I may have to go in early and leave early. I want a t-shirt, my original OS X launch one is in very bad shape. :(
See you there! (I hope:))

I see you are back in full force. I have been avoiding the whole 6G thing since the performance of most multichannel cards with standard drives is fine. If you are running an array based on SSD drives then I can see the value at this time, but no mechanical drive is going to max out 3G (SATA II) at this time. BTW Nano, running an xserve now, made life so much easier. Have two Sans Digital SAS Chassis, 316X2, dual SAS connectors for 2400MB/S performace, and it has made dealing with raid simple. No more time out errors, no more hard drives dropping out, nothing. Not sure if plunking down $2500 per chassis is worth it but for me with no headaches it was.
Peace,

$170 is day light robbery imo
Of course it is for you. You're from London where you can request an iPhone unlocked for free or for a very small price. In the US all iPhones are locked and ATT will not unlock them PERIOD!! So $170 is not robbery when there are no other options for a factory unlocked phone.

I was hoping that having a render going would be sufficient to tell the system that the computer is in use and do not sleep.
Is there something else that will?

Does anyone have a facebook fan page set up for your photography? I never really considered setting one up before. Just figured the website would be sufficient, and email for receiving messages and etc. But, today, on a whim I went for it and set up an artist page. It's actually quite interesting, and a whole different experience from maintaining your normal photography site. Actually, since I'm in the beginning stages of a new site design, which will essentially be a restructuring from the ground up for how it is utilized, do you think it is best to leave the interaction side of things to facebook and let the website be more of a deep archive of the work, resume, etc?
If you're interested in checking out the fb artist page I set up, which actually includes in progress images of new work I'm putting together, it can be found at http://www.facebook.com/andybloxhamimagery

could be. but honestly i don't think that's a good thing. it just makes the equipment more expensive, clunky and less capable than dedicated devices. after all you don't need that feat all the time. only once in a while and then you bring the extra gps. cramming a gps in nowadays small P&S or even DSLR's is just expensive and complicated.
my two cents.
Every cell phone sold in the US has to have a working GPS device in it, and the GPS has to be "on" at all times.
Cost and power consumption are hardly issues. The only extra cost is adding an interface to the GPS unit to get the latest location data (which might be the front door of the building you're in if you're inside). The only extra power consumption is that needed to initiate and react to that poll, which is negligible (obviously).
But, yes, adding such a feature on a straight digicam or DSLR wouldn't necessarily make much sense. However, compared to the cost of an external GPS, which records "breadcrumbs" constantly (instead of just when you take a picture, because it doesn't know when you take a picture) and has enough memory and battery to hold said breadcrumbs throughout a, say, two-day road trip, integrating a low-power GPS into a camera doesn't sound all that far-fetched. But, I don't see camera makers doing that until GPS-locating of photos shows signs of taking off, which it doesn't, yet.

I hate how you have to download the entire OS every time there's a small update like this. 666MB for a few bug fixes... Also, what's up with the 666MB? Maybe we should stay away from this update guys lol.
I know. It's insane... Hopefully with iOS 5 we will get some sort of patch system, like on OS X. Makes sense, really.

Every time I read these threads I'm reminded why I don't have an iphone. Yeah, I have many other Apple devices, including a 3G iPad, but no iphone. I refuse to be a slave to the man. I wish subsidized devices didn't exist in this country. It reduces competition by locking people into contracts and ultimately holds technology back. Yeah, more people can own the "coolest" phone, but IMHO the ends don't justify the means.
This has been very frustrating for me too. I am disgusted that neither t-mobile or at&t have a pay as you go with data plan like the one for the ipad 3g. I would get an old 3gs or something and use it like that. I don't really make many calls so data is what I would use for email, etc.
This is possible is every freaking country in the world except in the US. I can't believe people tolerate this... it's a carrier dictatorship by any standards. I refuse to pay 60$us for a monthly bill when all I want is 25$us/2gig plus minutes I buy.

I miss the old Apple... The Apple that had the great, funny commercials. And also the fun to watch commercials. I remember these, they were the BEST. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN3RU8pJR74
So why don't they make these anymore?

Figured I'd give it some time before I posted my opinions. For what it's worth, I am responsible for a few web sites for my company (not the designer but have much of the say in the look).
My first impression was very negative but after reading the thread and spending some time really looking at the home page, I'm less negative. I think it's a bit busy and could stand a little tweaking. I think there are too many colors for headings. IMO, keep the dark blue and one color (I like grey) and lose the others.
FYI, I'm running at 1024 x 768; the price compare ad and google box both cut off about half of the last line of the ad.
I understand the need to provide as much information as possible on the home page but maybe some of it could be moved elsewhere and an additional tab or two added at the top. Might reduce a bit of the clutter.
Overall, a very good start. A site is constantly evolving. I know how much work goes into a site change, let alone a new design. Great job!
Sign me up as a contributor. Couldn't find out where to do that. But please, I don't want to be known as a demi-god, I'll stick with my lowly rating.

This thread has something to do with taxes?
Do you know of any other way someone's wealth might be taken from them? Theft? Come on. Really.

There were several stories on that a while back. (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=google+dns+slow+apple+downloads&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8)Don't recall the outcome.
FWIW, I'm on OpenDNS and I just installed Tiger from scratch on 2 machines and downloads were very fast.
I reverted back to my ISP's DNS servers and will report back when Apple releases another update - OpenDNS has domain hijacking issues/censorship, so I won't use it.

Hello..
Just got MBA.. the Cheapo 11" model.. and I wanna run Bootcamp once in a while to do things (games, office, etc.)
I've read the forums and it looks like running bootcamp on an external drive is out of the question.. but can I install OSX on an external drive, and then install a virtualization software like Parallels and then install Windows and run it off that?
I'm wondering if I'll have significant performance issues.. I won't be running any extensive games.. just some casual stuff from time to time and a Microsoft Office PC version for the times things just don't seem to be compatible with Mac Office...
Best,
J

I guess a better question is if they'll run out on Friday. I've heard a lot of stores get shipments on Friday. On the other hand, maybe an explanation for the 5PM release is show shipments get there in time and they don't restock over night.
Tough question lol.
I can head down there at 1 but its possible I'll have a class assignment in the afternoon till around 5, then an hour drive to SLC wouldn't put me there till 6.
