    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Your biggest problem is that you gave them your computer. Never give it to anyone, just say ok I'll stop and be done. They cannot make you give it to them, they aren't the police. It is their rules on their own network so you should follow the rules and if they ask you to stop then stop. Just remember, don't give up your computer. I hope you get it back and all goes well.

Thanks, just gone and got it back. All looks fine

Based on murmurings and mooings on the pro sites, I reckon Apple will lose some customers to Avid, if they had originally come from Avid some time in the last 10 years. They're talking about going back to Avid, not to Avid.

I also reckon every kid who has used iMovie in the last few years will start using FCP X in about July. This is the next generation of video editors, and they will far outnumber Avid users. They will be making movies for web distribution. They will be flooding the film schools. They will also have the mad skillz (look at me, sounding like a teenager :D) to turn things over really quickly, something which is appreciated in today's editing environment.

Apple has built FCP X for people who have never used film and probably never will so the metaphor needed to go. Bye-bye bins, hello "smart folders". And a big hello to the do-deca-core, 8TB, 32GB Mac Pro everyone can now justify purchasing.

I agree on all points. Apple is walking a fine line between making the current pros happy and creating a project that will differentiate itself in way to inspire the post-film generation filmmakers (heck post video tape) generation filmmakers and thereby inspire sales.

I also think Apple has the advantage of the App store. While not free from hacking/pirating so far it looks more resistant that means it flexibility in pricing. For every copy of the software Adobe is selling how many dozens of copies are pirated? Currently the same thing could be said for FCP but I imagine that ration will turn in Apple's favor now. Avid is more immune but then Avid appeals to a different (perhaps dying) demographic.

Other than being glad simply because England won (and Australia didn't :D) I'm particularly thankful as well since I'm spending next weekend with 5 Aussises and they would have been unbearable had Australia won :D

EyeTV has a free service called My EyeTV which resolves the IP. You just need to register with your email address and a password, then within the EyeTV app on the iPhone you enter same and you can connect from anywhere. However, for all this to work you need the EyeTV application running on your Mac.

Similarly, there was a question about accessing your video from a network outside of your home (or whatever), yes, that works as long as you have registered via the My EyeTV service.

Very nice. It looks like anyone on a dynamic IP can use the EyeTV app if they have a compatible router.

Though you can't tell much from a single screenshot, it looks like the iCal update is more a cosmetic update rather than a feature update. The only new feature I can see in that screenshot is something about new event notifications, but that's hardly what people have been clamoring for.
Actually, if they would fix the bugs in iCal I'd be happy :D
I would expect tighter intregration for the new iCal server, and other backend stuffs, maybe some professionalizing of the interface.

That's a little bit of circular logic you have going there.

By that reasoning you could outlaw anything.

Show me the laws that force a dress code on foreign visitors.

You mean when female troops from other countries are "encouraged" to cover up while serving in Muslim countries?

You read in my comments what you want, I clearly stated that both parties are at fault. I don't recognize the "victim" angle on the woman's side, it doesn't mean I don't think the guy was in the right either. Both can be wrong (novel concept, I know).

Under the circumstances, if he was really trying to kill her, I think he would have succeeded.
There is no equivalence. Her choices did not endanger his life in any way.

Steve's biography is written. Just read his list of patents.

You do realize that Jobs is not an engineer. Nor has he ever programmed anything.

I have read all the patents where he's the first name listed. There's only about a half dozen, mostly ideas related to iPods and icons. And that gooseneck monitor arm. Oh, and he came up with the slide-to-power-off thingie you see if you hold down the iPhone power button.

My favorite: while the iPhone was being worked on by his employees, he applied for a patent for a telephone dial UI driven by a clickwheel. It was almost as cool as the Onion's "MacBook Wheel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BnLbv6QYcA)" parody:

Just curious on what everyones process at BB was. I walked in and signed a sheet of paper with barcodes and a picture of the iPhone 4. I paid 50 for a GC and they put my name down on a list for a 9am appointment on launch day. I just want to see if BB has the same procedures everywhere else.

yes, except they told me they'd give me a call sometime before the 24th as to when i can pick up my phone. it could be on the 24th, but it could also be a later date.

Princetonians, in my experience, are fratboys, prudes, and associated squares--by far the worst of the Ivies. Not a creative bone in the entire student body. They wouldn't know Macintosh if it bit them in their collective beige butt.

So tell me, how on earth is this good news? Unimaginative folk like these don't belong on our platform. Much better to celebrate the longstanding prevalence of Macs on progressive, independent-minded, and artistic campuses such as Brown and Columbia. But Princeton? Give me a break.

Ouch, somebody is jealous. Spend less time at TI and Cottage next time you visit, please.

    Gang rape

    sorry?

i did only want to point out a tiny thing and that was , only because it is stated in the bible that its alright to rape a women if you marry her after and pay her father some money it might still be against the law in some countries

it might be part of the culture and religious believe of some christians , but in the UK and some other countries it is still against the law ..and most accept that law..

and if muslims have read the bible , i guess i know why they want to protect their women
we should make them understand that most of us do not live according the bible even if we are christians
and some christians should read the qu'ran too
same for the other religions out there , and then whoever reads what should get told how that is handled in reality ,that would i guess make life a bit easier among us humans

Horrible! I feel for you man. Why such a silly limit?

    Bible belt.

There are a lot of places where you have to go to a liquor/package store to buy real beer because state law only allows supermarkets/convenience stores to sell 3.2% beer.

OMG the telephone is white! OK, can MACrumors focus on macs now and leave iOS devices for a while??

Haha. I don't know where you've been for the last 1-2 years, but iOS dominates 95% of MacRumors. It's what sells (page views) man!

I don't know, but Intel seems to be selling Apple all the processors they want, and even are working with them to produce special applications for Apple's needs, NVidea seems to be selling cards to them, too...[...]
The gaming market is one Apple apparantly isn't concerned about yet, and probably won't be for a while,[...]

One things that might make sense is that those 5% of users are mostly the same as they were some years ago, and those are people who are willing to spend some extra money, so it's good to have them onboard - I mean those people over there at the sub-forums for photography, design and music :)

From a Production point of view, not only Apple Computer buys a lot of chips (or other component) as they probably buy a lot of the same. On the contrary, a company like HP, buying components for 3 lines of products, with 10 models each might eventually sell 10 times more computers than Apple, but in fact get similar volume discounts in each component.

As for gaming, 2 thoughts: it's too late to compete for the atention of developers working with DirectX, and it's possibly too late to compete with Sony, Nintendo and MS on the console part of that market. In the end it makes sense: a Mac will work nicely out of the box, a Nintendo will too, a PC gamer will expect some tinkering with settings before being able to get the optimal framerate. Those 5% of people who have been happy with Macs for so many years, and the thousands joining in late are likely to be happier with a Nintendo Wii than with 3 screenfulls of settings when they start up a computer game.

I don't know if these 5% are a comfortable place or not, I do wonder what is people's reasonable expectation for market growth, considering that the competing operating systems have much more to lose than to gain, and that overall Windows lags behind OS X.

You can't be serious. Third fiddle to Microsoft, the same company that dropped 1.3% when the Verizon iPhone released? Google and Apple have the momentum and there's nothing anybody, except MAYBE Palm/HP, can do about it. :apple:

This is a fight Apple, literally, cannot win as long as they are the only company building iOS devices. They cannot compete with the number of companies making Android devices, and they cannot compete with the "push to the bottom" on price that competition has entailed.

And, truth be told, I think Apple is more than happy to bleed market share as long as they maintain a high level of profitability on each device sold. That was, and is, their business model with the MacOS. I see no reason to expect a change there.

I'd be all for something like this. Normal 3D displays are useless to me, I have an eye condition that doesn't allow me to see 3D. So I should at least have SOME 3D fun.

I better take care of my ol' shuffle, since when it dies I have to buy a iPod and a USB memory. Not what I call evolution...

Assuming that (1) you use the Shuffle as a music player and use a descent amount of its space, and (2) when using it as a jump drive, you're not storing more than 256MB, you can just get something like a 256MB Cruzer Micro for $15. Which added with the new shuffle, is probably smaller than the old shuffle. Maybe not for everyone, but I like encoding high enough, and have enough songs, that even if I used a shuffle as a jump drive, I wouldn't have much space left after my songs.

I'm not sure where my friend got one of his jump drives, but it is tiny; it's pretty much the end you stick into the USB drive plus a little stub. 128MB. Maybe it's personal preference, but I'd much rather have a tiny player + tiny flash drive than one (relatively) big shuffle.
