Freedom's only requirement should be that you obey the law. Within those confines, a person should have the right to express themselves as they please.

For those who "don't trust" a hidden face, I would like to point out that people have long practiced the art of lying and deception without the aid of a veil.

    I agree Bwhaler,

Moreover, I have had a brush with serious illness and knowing that Steve would be doing as much as he can to ensure his health, I hope he is just being pedantic about his diet. Grazing diets as you might call them usually restrict calories in some form or another and this is part of a long term plan to give the body time to recover without being stressed. Even though he is vegetarian, it doesnt mean he should be eating Tacos and icecream...bad move.

    Heres to hoping.

I think it's time to Retire Core Solo & Offer Two Core 2 Duo Speeds By January 2007. There's no cost reason to keep a Core Solo in the line.
Well, considering Core Solo is bound to be much cheaper than Core 2 Duo, I'd say that's a good COST reason to keep it.

Also, my internet connection is a T1 and I have seen it go up to 5mb down 3mb up.

    Then it isn't a T1.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Signal_1

3mbit/sec is still pretty slow for this. That's only 375K bytes/sec. A 600MB media file (the size of a CD, and apx. the size of an H.264-compressed full-length SD video) would take about a half-hour to transfer.

Now, with my 30mbit/sec Internet service, I expect to be able to transfer, from the biggest sites anyway, at maybe 20mbit/sec. At certain times of the day, I get the full 30. At 20, though, that 30 minutes shrinks to 4 minutes.

Depending on what kind of connections your users have, you could frustrate the heck out of them with this setup.

MOST businesses have no legitimate need for running online servers in-house. Certainly, for the typical web hosting, it almost never makes sense to do it in-house. Because of the large amount of storage needed in this case, though, what makes sense is probably co-location. You do need to minimize the physical size, because one component of colo charges is how many "U" (=1.75 inch) units the equipment occupies.

Colo facilities typically have "hands-on" support available. It can be fairly expensive (like $50/hour) but how long does it take to swap a hard drive? And with a RAID array, you could probably get by with no attention for a little while. If the place is in-town, you can go there yourself to replace a drive if needed. Otherwise, you give them a spare or two, and if something happens, they charge you, say, 15 minutes to swap out the drive (which will take them 5 minutes).

My boss is this way.. he was a mac user WAY BACK in the "Quadra" series day and before that, but he switched to windoze back then.. And he too is used to doing things the 'complicated way' change is hard for some people, and even when I laugh at him for doing things that seem so complicated to a 'mac' way. He continues to think 'this is how it's supposed to be'. So now I just shake my head and don't say anything :-)

3D audio cues? How would you get anything above 1D audio cues?

I presume it's a similar notion to the way video games utilize "3D stereo sound" -- the cue will be in relation to the position to the item's placement on the screen. (As it says in the original post.)

So if you have a window on the extreme left side of your screen, you'll hear VoiceOver out of the left speaker; if it's in the middle, you'll hear it equally in both, etc.

EDIT: Heeeeee. Much better explanation posted quicker than my meager attempts. Clearly Chef Medeski is a much better person than I should ever hope to be!

You don't need to take a country by direct force when you set up their governments to bend to your whims. Why do you think certain leaders get installed by us? Just because the USA is very careful about the PR doesn't mean we aren't in control through various means.

That is how you see it ... "bend to your whims?"

I however disagree with your opinion of the USA

    Bad move...

Obviously, there is huge demand for cheaper Macs. Cheap doesn't equal bad!

The reason there is a huge demand for cheaper Macs is simply because you can buy an HP for so little. If PCs started in price at $599, you wouldn't see people bellyaching about Mac prices. It's a market driven effect that really doesn't reflect the real market value of a PC in my opinion. Everyone trying to undercut each other just a little bit untill eventually everyone is cutting bone.

There is no reason this wouldn't work.

It wouldn't work. The reason PCs can be sold for that little is that the companies making them:

    1) Don't do much of their own R&D work (they mostly follow others' lead)
    2) Are making the costs up in volume (and Apple's volume isn't quite what Dell's is).
    3) They offer inferior customer service to what I think most people here would argue is Apple's norm.
    4) They have no software development costs. Think of all the programs that come on your Mac for free, not to mention OSX itself. PC makers are paying a licence fee to Microsoft that is paltry (and M$ makes it up on volume) but Apple has to fund development of OSX and the iApps somehow, and part of that higher Mac price goes to fund them. PC makers bundle lots of trialware and other software other companies have spent the development costs to make.

BTW -- anyone want to buy a bridge in NY? Great location, fantastic price!

If you're referring to the Brooklyn Bridge, you can't sell it. It's MINE.:p My great-great-great-great grandpappy brought it off some chap name George Parker. I also own Ulysses S Grant's Tomb if anyone is interested in taking it off my hands. Yep, G5-pappy brought it off Parker as well.:D:D:D

And the US still incarcerates more people that China.

No need to imprison dead people. Back during the imperial age, the whole clan would have been executed. Maybe in a few more centuries, they'll fit the punishment to the crime.

Worked great at home. At work I can connect and schedule and watch live tv, but recorded shows all return a "this video is not compatible" when trying to play, even after they were exported to the "best" and "iphone" format.
For playback over 3G you need to encode using the EyeTV cellular or the 480x360 iPhone preset (you can select between iPhone 480x360, or iPhone + cellular or just cellular under EyeTV's Preferences > iPhone > More Options...). You also need to setup the My EyeTV account if you haven't already done so. Either that, or try what I detailed in my previous post which will produce much better quality and lower bitrates over 3G. In my hands, I can't stream the standard 480x360 iPhone preset over 3G -- it just stops and pauses too often.

where do you guys get november from? The vista web site says early to mid 2007

Business customers will get it before the end of the year. It will be a half arsed release that even Microsoft doesn't expect anyone to actually deploy, but the release will be made then just to keep the promises they made to many corporate customers who've previously purchased support contracts to keep their licenses current. Many of these licenses are sold with the *nudge nudge wink wink* promise that they will get the upgrade to Windows Vista as well, so many will be seriously pissed if Microsoft just lets their contracts elapse and feigns ignorance of that...

Oh, and to answer the criticism that you think this doesn't make sense: Wikipedia is:

    - Continually peer reviewed.
    - Comprised of contributions usually written by experts in their field
    - Constantly monitored by people looking for incorrect modifications to pages they've added.

There's also the discussion, in which you can participate or just read, which can be useful particularly when reading disputed articles that may carry a bias (like politics)... Also, for certain articles, only registered users are allowed to edit content to prevent vandalism. Overall, I think they succeeded in building an almost "self-supporting" system. And no, I'm not afraid of some nasty orwellian scenario, as my sig. could lead you to think :p

You can't rely on either as a definitive source, but objectively Wikipedia is a more useful starting point than the EB, and it's certainly fair to point someone its direction if you believe the article to be largely accurate and if it contains links that'll allow a reader to research further.

Although this approach may lead to inaccurate external material creeping into an otherwise reliable source, I've found that on some potentially obscure subjects (namely the conspiracy theories around the 9/11/73 military coup in Chile and the 9/11/01 attacks, about which I had to make an essay and design a 4-page newspaper-like brochure), the various angles and theories are explored, explained, and linked to. It's up to you to believe the sources, since they are usually so diverse in nature and opinion, just as, say, in "real life" (a.k.a. god-awful-google, which really sucks for serious on-line research), only they are partially digested for you to use them as a starting point, like peharri pointed out.

so they moved the month ans search to the top...

not as bif an overhall as i was expecting :( but then again, dunno what iwas expecting:rolleyes: ;)

I think its clear that this won't be what the final version will look like, the day/week/month button writing is completely uncentralized, I imagine this is just an interim before they unveil a new type of button design, or maybe more, at MWSF.

    shouldn't have done that!

Right then why are you here?

Get off and you will not need to worry about it.

Sorry to hear they got cought but way to many for this kind of crime. :(

Got to be more subtle about things like this mostly with Apple the do go ballistics on this stuff.

The home button is part of the mechanism for escaping crashes so it would be a bit dumb to have the means of escape software based' ie touch.

Going "touch" does not necessarily mean controlled by high-level software. Take the Cube - it's power button was touch as well and you could escape a crashed computer by holding it for five seconds.

The advantage of a "touch" homebutton would be a better immersion into the device - Steve doesn't like buttons - and less wear-prone mechanics. Apple did that in the past with the iPod wheel already...

Pretty sure he's in a parking lot and parked, buddy.

I think he may be right. I've never seen a parking lot with rows of cars parallel parked.

Edit: Although I do not see brake lights engaged on most of the cars.
